WASO’s reimagined community musician experience, Side-by-Side Symphony, is similar in concept to their previous community event The Rusty Orchestra, with experienced musicians aged 25+ years from across Western Australia performing alongside WASO musicians, to create the Side-by-Side Symphony.
In June 2024, community musicians have the extraordinary opportunity to learn from and perform with WASO musicians. Rehearsing together across two consecutive days before presenting a performance of classical repertoire to the general public at Perth Concert Hall, this wonderful concert experience is like no other offered to community instrumentalists in Australia.
You can look forward to showcasing your talent with demanding repertoire from romantic composers Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky.
WASO invite music educators and practising musicians who are currently members of a community orchestra or wind band to apply.
The 2024 program is as follows:
Friday 14 June
- Full Orchestra Rehearsal: Afternoon + Evening
Saturday 15 June
- Final rehearsal: Morning
- Performance: Evening
They will accept applications for the following instruments: Flute/Piccolo, Oboe/Cor Anglais, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
Online applications are now open and will close at 5pm, Sunday 28 January 2024, with successful applicants notified via email on Monday 19 February 2024. Please note that there is a participant fee required upon acceptance.
