The WA Music Teachers’ Association is run by a volunteer management committee ("Council") of Teaching members, along with a Secretary / Office Administrator employed to work 12 hours per week. A Country representative and a non-voting Companion member representative are also invited to join the WAMTA Council.
With the exception of the Secretary, the WAMTA Council is elected at the AGM to serve for 12 months. Each year we encourage someone who has not served on the Council before to nominate. It is important to keep fresh blood with new ideas on the committee!
Council members are encouraged to familiarise themselves with running an incorporated association.
Council Meetings
Council meetings are currently held via Zoom on the evening of the second Thursday of the month, starting at 8pm.

Expectations of Council Members
- Attendance at Monthly Council Meetings: Attendance at Council Meetings is mandatory, since this is where the decisions on the day-to-day running of the Association are made.
- Prompt response to Emails: Business which cannot wait for the next meeting is dealt with via a google email group. It is vital that Council members respond promptly, so that the day-to-day business of the Association can run smoothly.
- Host / assist at WAMTA Events: Events are the lifeblood of the Association and require staffing to function. Council Members are expected to make themselves available to help out at our events; in return they will receive the benefit free of charge.
- Willingness to take on tasks / form subcommittees: Spreading out the work of the Association helps to take pressure off the Executive, who otherwise are left to deal with all the issues or manage all the projects for the benefit of WAMTA and its members.
- Willingness to serve selflessly and without expectation of special privilege: Council members must understand that serving on the WAMTA Council is a commitment for the good of the Association. It should not be considered as a platform to further one’s own interests.
